This song came to me in pieces. From two different song ideas even. Usually when I come up with a new song idea, I sit down at a piano and record whatever comes to me. "Shine" was a little different. It actually came from two different song ideas, both of which I had already decided to work in the studio. I had even already recorded multiple instruments for both. Then one day I realized that I really liked the verse on one and the chorus on the other. It was like somehow they just belonged together. After messing around with it a bit, I finally got the whole thing working the way it seemed it should go. When all was said and done, it just seemed like it should have the words "then I see you shine" in the chorus. The rest of the lyrics followed from there and I started laying down the vocals. I really enjoyed working on it!
